An Evening with Gary Neptune: Annual Pot Luck Dinner Benefiting the Eckart Roder Education Fund

Thursday, October 28th

6:00PM- 8:30PM

Enjoy an evening with CMC friends Thursday, October 28th while supporting important CMC education programs! Bring a dish to share and continue to build Eckart Roder's legacy through the Club's Education Fund.  The dinner price of $20 is a tax-deductible contribution to the Eckart Roder Education Fund. Additional gifts are welcome. Purchase tickets at the bottom of this page.

Eckart was a long time, tireless volunteer for the Colorado Mountain Club until his tragic death in a ski lift accident in 2003. The Education Fund was started to honor and remember Eckart the man, the person we climbed with and loved. Since 2004, the fund has awarded grants to help the Denver, Boulder, Pikes Peak, Fort Collins and El Pueblo groups with worthwhile education projects. These have included advanced training for leaders in climbing and skiing, risk management, team building, training in avalanche awareness and preparedness, and other important education efforts.

This year's dinner will include another exceptional program: one of our Club's own world-class climbers and long-time dedicated volunteer, Gary Neptune, will present a slide show of his latest adventure - a ski crossing of Canada's Baffin Island.  Gary is the founder of Neptune Mountaineering in Boulder and a veteran of numerous climbs, ski races, and ski tours worldwide. Gary, his wife Bibi and John Huston made the 100+ mile crossing above the Arctic Circle in April, 2019.  Their ski route past Mt. Thor and Mt. Asgard is said to be the most beautiful ski tour in the world.  It was a 10 day (plus rest day) expedition with some nighttime temps of -30F.

Almost all CMC members know about many of Gary's mountaineering accomplishments, very few probably know the full extent of his lifetime of world-class adventures.

Gary says the main thing is that he has enjoyed many varied experiences in the mountains. He is curious, but not driven to focus on exceptional achievement. He recently realized that he hadn't experienced days on end working and camping in Polar conditions without a cozy hut and an easy way to dry out. What better place to learn something new than spectacular Baffin Island with John Huston and Mattie McNair!

Sign up today for this fun social occasion, an interesting program, and make a contribution to the Club!

This is a pot luck dinner! Reservation required - RSVP and purchase your ticket at the bottom of this page.
