Details

We'll cross fingers for clear skies and pleasant weather and enjoy a moonlight outing at Black Canyon of the Gunnison! The national park south entrance is free this time of year. We'll start from the visitor center parking lot and Anne will take the snowshoers and Charlie (the man, the myth, the legend) will take the XC skiers on the closed road past the visitor center which is groomed.

Snowshoers will be out around 2 hours, approx 3-4 miles rated easy and depends on the group.

XC skier destination is one of the various overlooks along the road depending on the group. Easy II rating up to 500' gain.

Bring 10 essentials and headlamp.

CMC COVID policy in place and mask required within 6 feet of others. Please indicate in comments if you are XC skiing or snowshoeing. If there is a waitlist, we'll make this 2 separate trips to accomodate.

Notes

Due to cloudy conditions (no full moon) and lower than normal temperatures (14F) combined with breezey conditions.the leader decided to have participants hike the uplands and rim rock trails for a total of 2.1 miles, gaining 476 feet of elevation in approximately 2 hours duration. Trail conditions  ranged from tracked to sections with ~ 3" of new snow.

All participants completed the hike without difficulty and returned to their respective vehicles. All vehicles departed the visitor center parking area along with the leader.
