Meet at Westminster Park-N-Ride, 88th and Sheridan Blvd.  This PnR occupies both sides of the Boulder Turnpike and Google maps sends you to the wrong side!  We meet on the west (Denver inbound) side of the turnpike - not the side with the parking garage.  It is common for first timers to this meeting place to go to the wrong side.  If confused let me know and I will send you a map.  We meet in the middle of the lot and it is easy to see us.   We wear masks at the meeting place.  Although some drivers accept passengers there is no guarantee so come prepared to drive yourself.

This trip idea comes from a mountain bike website but in 3 scouting visits to sort out the confusing route situation the leader encountered one bike.  The area is just west of Gross Reservoir and terrain is similar to well known Walker Ranch Open Space which is just east of the reservoir.  Walker Ranch is crowded with hikers and bikers but expect to see few of either on this hike.  From a little known and used site off Magnolia Road we descend eastward on some dirt service roads to the western shore of Gross Reservoir which is the low point of the hike.  Interupting the descent is a short off trail climb of peak 8182' which should afford great views of the reservoir.   After retracing our steps for a ways up the hill from the water we leave the road and climb on a trail up to Winiger Ridge.  We follow the ridge on a pleasant trail west to its end at private property, then retrace back a ways to where we can descend off the ridge to our starting point.  The whole area is a mix of public/private land and roads/trails which made it difficult to stitch together a decent route.  But I think this will be an interesting hike which includes a rare visit to the shore of Gross Reservoir.  I could find no reference to a hke like this in the CMC trip database going back 10 years.  Here is a CalTopo map of our down-up trip

We wear masks at the TH but wearing while moving is your choice.  Please keep your distance from other trip members.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
