Details

Although rare within the CMC, backcountry incidents when they do happen are stressful, confusing, and the wrong activities can potentially compound to make a bad situation even worse. For those who have always wanted a means to review, practice, and improve the skills needed to successfully manage the initial aspects of an unforeseen incident, the CMC now offers the Backcountry Incident Management School.

The student field day events will have students simultaneously rotating through four stations, with each station emphasizing one aspect (one role) typically required to manage and mitigate the consequences of a backcountry incident. These roles consist of a First Aid Team, a Get Help Team, a Bivy Team, and an Incident Manager. The IM will coordinate the actions and activities of the other three roles.

BIM School prerequisites:
1) Successful completion of a recent Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course.
2) Priority given to CMC trip leaders and school instructors.

Notes

Once accepted by the school director, students will be given a passcode to enroll through the CMC Calendar. Enrollment tuition will be paid at this point.

Students will receive a pre-session email that includes logistics, some homework, and a list of recommended materials needed for the field day.

If the course is full you can request to be added to the Wait List. No tuition will be required at this point. Once moved from the Wait List to the Participant List you will need to contact the CMC office to pay your enrollment fee.

After paying your tuition fee, should you need to withdraw from the course you may not be eligible for a refund since the tuition falls below the CMC $35 processing fee. Optionally, you can request that this fee be fully applied to another CMC course that you are interested in.
