Description: This trip is intended as a pre-season gear shakedown for those that want to test out their set-up before hitting the long trails once the snow melts in the hihg country. Discussions will be towards lightweight backpacking. We will use this early season and close-in trip on Colorado Trail Segment 3 - Little Scraggy TH to Morrison Creek to simulate actual conditions while having support from fellow members and being close in, so not a big deal if everything doesn't work perfectly out of the box. The leader has done the the Colorado Trail, Continental Divide Trail through Colorado and John Muir Trail and this gear shakedown should beneift anyone wanting to do simialr this season. We will take the long way out the next day to help get out feet ready for the long trail. Individual mentoring on usage of COTREX and FarOut (Guthook) apps can be provided pre- and during the trip so you are confident in how to use those indispenable apps for the long trails.

Day 1 – Hike 3.0 miles west on Colorado Trail Segment 3 to Morrison Creek for camping. (2.8 miles, 350 feet up, 500 down).

Day 2 – Go around Little Scaggy Peak on way out  (9.4 miles, +1568 ft, -1432ft). Bailout is same hike out same path (3.0 miles, 500 feet elevation gain).

General Requirements:Bring your equipment set-up, food and water exactly as you plan to use on the long trail and we will measure starting weights and offer suggestions on reducing base weight.
