Details

This is the field trip associated with the Nav1 online course.

Prerequisite for participation is completion of online Nav1 course modules 0-10. If you have not already registered and completed the Nav1 online course, learn more about it and/or enroll here.

For the field day, enrollment password is provided in final module of Nav1 online course material.

Participants must also attend 7pm MT Weds (3 days prior to field day) webinar at ZoomLink. The conference will cover general Q&A about the course, review of North Table Mountain plotting exercise, and logistics for subsequent field day.

The object of Nav1 Field day is to put into practice the skills acquired from the Nav1 online course. We will focus on Nav Core Competencies and acquiring field travel skills including orienting the map, position fixing, bee lining, leap frogging, handrailng, obstacle avoidance, and more.

Students will be required to relate terrain to a map, identify map features and also be able to determine field and map locations using a compass..

This class is a prerequisite for participation in Alpine Climbing School (ACS).

Notes

There is a fair amount of slow movement and standing around during this Field Day as we will be studiously examining the surrounding terrain and comparing it to the printed map. It is important that you come prepared for weather. Bring essentials as you would for any CMC full day outing.

We will be hiking off trail much of the day. North table Mountain is a rattle snake habitat and summer grasses are tall. Please wear hiking boots. Long pants or light gaiters are not a bad idea.
