During the hike I will occasionly comment on the geology of the Hall Ranch area and the adjacent foothills and Front Range. On a clear day there are excellent views of the Front Range including Long Peak, the northernmost 14er in Colorado, and geologic features such as Mills moraine, near Chasm Lake, which was deposited during the last major glaciation in Colorado.

Meet at Hall Ranch Open Space Park on the north side of highway 7, about 1 mile southwest of Lyons, Colorado. Please park on the south side of the upper (northern) parking lot. There are bathrooms at the trailhead.

Those who would like to carpool, please let me know and I will give you contact information for others who would also like to carpool to the trailhead.

Pace will be casual, but not slow –– about 1.2–1.4 miles per hour.

Please remember to bring lunch, water, micro spikes, face mask for cold winds, and your personal first aid kit. Trekking poles are recommended.

Be prepared for cold and windy weather.

Look for an email from me 1 or 2 days before the hike with weather and other information.
