We will snowshoe up this trail to three different stream crossings that should be solid ice to walk across. At each of the 3 stream crossings faster hikers will wait for slower hikers to catch up. If it is a cold day, faster hikers please be prepared to don extra clothing while we wait for others to catch up. We have 2 trip leaders to account for differences in snowshoeing pace. Moderate pace for hiking is around 2.0 to 2.5 mph and maybe a little slower for snow shoeing. Casual pace for snowshoeing may be around 1.5 to 2.0 mph or a little slower for snowshoeing. The first mile of this trail is steep, then gradually ascends until the second stream crossing. After the second stream crossing this acrea is also steep.
After the third stream crossing we will rest at an area where in the past beavers built damns and the area is now a waterlogged grassy "meadow" which should be covered with snow. Good views all around! At this point we can have some lunch and then return.
The risk of avalanche on this trail is mostly negligible. There are no signs of historical avalanche along this trail. However, in the event there is severe avalanche warning according to the CAIC in areas such as this, the trip may be cancelled.
Please only fully vaccinated members sign up! We will car pool but you are also welcome to meet at the trail head.
