Barr trail from start to Barr Camp, with optional trip on New Year's to summit. 

Due to COVID, we were required to secure the full bunkhouse. Your portion of this cost for two nights including breakfast and dinner for two days is $90.00.

Please note that we have secured the full back bunkroom, there are no other people staying in the bunkhouse. As you are aware masks will be required within the main portion of the cabin.

Meeting Location: meet at leaders home, near I 25 & Hampden (hwy 285) Exit 201

Barr Trail, Colorado Springs. Stay at cabin at Barr Camp 2 nites. THIS IS A 3 DAY TRIP, return on Sunday Jan 2, 2022.

COST $90 FOR 2 NITES, inc 2 dinner, 2 breakfast. Dinner first night is vegitarian spagetti. (this is made with a soy based protein powder)

Friday 12/31 LEAVE LEADER HOME 7 AM, START HIKING APPROX  8:30AM. Arrive Barr camp approx 3-4pm. Hike 6.5mi/3700 ft. This hike likely will take 5 hr, at a SLOW-MODERATE pace. ENJOY FIREWORKS FROM CLOSE UP TO BRING IN THE NEW YEAR!

Saturday 1/1 breakfast  & dinner provided by Barr camp staff, Optional Pikes Peak Climb  on 1/1/22 &return to Barr camp-12/3900.  leave 8am for summit, return 4pm. Summiting is not guaranteed. Summitting is dependent upon weather and how participants feel after starting out. Summit trip is 2 parts, -part 1 goes up 3 mi to tree line & A frame. Discussion will be had to continue or not to summit. Final 3 mi,  leader may take winter route, or regular Barr trail thus 2-3 mi to summit. Typiical round trip time is 8 hr, with several hours above tree line. Summit house may/may not be open.

For those that do not want to summit, Linda MAY take people on a day hike on new Lake Moraine trail or another trail  that starts from Barr camp. Trip would be about 6- 10 miles round trip, 1500 gain. If summit is not duable we may lead the full group.

Sunday hike out, have celebration meal in Manitou & drive home. Return to Denver approx 4pm. 



Microspikes are very beneficial, strongly recommended. Trekking poles also beneficial. bring balaclava, clothing for strong wind protection.  BE PREPARED FOR SEVERE WINTER WEATHER, WIND AND COLD. 3 mi of 6 miles to summit is above treeline.




*This is a Bobcats trip. The Bobcats' mission is to ensure a variety of challenging CMC trips, especially “B Difficult” and “C” hikes and Difficult Snowshoes, for our mostly age-50+ constituents. We may sponsor other activities of interest to our members, everything from bike rides to camping. Although we have members, we don’t have dues or elections, and our trips are non-exclusive.
