Learn to ski tour safely in Colorado's backcountry.

Of the various CMC Ski Schools offered, BNSS fills the needs of students who wish to learn or improve their "Kick and Glide" technique on Backcountry skis. The school is divided into ski groups based on skier ability, from 'Never-ever' to beginner and intermediate skiers. There is an 'ADVANCED' group for skiers who have taken BNSS several times in the past. The ski terrain will vary depending on the class' experience level.

The Backcountry Nordic Ski School (BNSS) is comprised of an intial meeting in December, followed by 3 consecutive Saturday on-snow ski days, January 8, 15, 22. The intial meeting will be a ZOOM call on December 7th at 6:30 pm. The topics that will be discussed will be proper clothing for backcountry skiing, ski touring equipment and how to prepare for a backcountry trip. After the lectures, we will break out into Ski Groups with your instructors.

The first on-snow day will be at a Nordic Center using track skis. The ski rental and Trail Pass are covered by your tuition. The second on-snow day may be at a Nordic Center or possibly in Colorado's backcountry. The third on-snow day (optional) is in Colorado's backcountry on a trail geared toward the students skiing ability. Please note that if you miss a ski day, you may not be allowed to continue since each class builds on the skills and techniques learned in the previous class. So put the dates on your calendar and try not to schedule over them. Refunds can not be given for missed classes.

Fill out the information below to sign up for the class. The 'experience' questions are to assist us in putting you in the correct group of skiers.

Note: this class is limited to CMC members only.

Tuition includes:

  • Two days of lessons
  • Two Trail Passes
  • Track Ski Rental for the 1st on-snow day
  • Optional Field Day
