Details

We'll hike Horseshoe Trail, one of 5280 magazine's top three aspen hikes close to Denver, at a SLOW, relaxed, steady pace (NO long stops but we'll pause for beauty and we may have a few QUIET sections to marvel at leaves without us talking!) UP a somewhat rocky trail, dry creek on left, aspen hopefully at peak around us, 1.8 mi to top (about 900+ elev gain but the UP is up/flat/up/flat so not a hard UP plus we're IN aspen so a happy motivation) to Mule Deer Trail where we'll turn right for bachelor John Fraser's historic meadow rimmed in aspen and ponder the lucky horses who lived in his barn there, head back another .7 mi to Rim Meadow where aspen abound, to the boulder field and overlook for lunch, back to a small loop in aspen, and down. About 5 mi total and should be lovely with golden aspen!  NOT for fast hikers. This is an aspen appreciation hike!

Notes

Bring your usual CMC essentials, PLENTY OF WATER, your ID/MEDS/FIRST AID KIT (Puh-leez let me know privately if  you have any medical issues that could affect you or us on our hike (hypoglycemia [bring your stash], asthma, allergies/bee sting issues [epi pen and where you keep it if you have one], hip replacements, the usual.), lunch and/or snacks, and a positive attitude and appreciation for aspen in whatever stage they show us! Poles help. We go up SLOW, steady and take time to pause for beauty among the aspen!
