Details

OVERVIEW



This Wilderness First Aid course teaches students the skills to anticipate risks and hazards, identify medical, traumatic, environmental problems, recognize life-threatening issues, initiate basic care and deliver a cohesive report. The curriculum forces students to think creatively, adapt to ever changing situations, and learn valuable leadership, decision making and commutation skills There are no prerequisites and courses are open to students 18 and over. This course also satisfies the requirements for CMC trip leaders.



FORMAT




  • The course will consist of two eight-hour days of in-person training with engaging lectures integrated with practical scenarios and skills practice sessions. 



​​IN-PERSON SCHEDULE




  • Saturday, 8:30 AM to 4 PM (lunch break included)

  • Sunday, 8:30 AM to 4 PM (lunch break included)

  • This course may take place inside or outside so be prepared for a variety of weather conditions.



PACKING CHECKLIST



✓ Notebook and pen



✓ Clipboard or hard surface to write on



✓ Watch with second hand or digital second (or cell phone with a timer)



✓ Personal hand sanitizer



✓ Water, snacks & lunch



✓ Closed toe shoes (i.e. hiking boots or trail runners)



✓ Day pack packed with the gear you primarily recreate with- this could be filled with climbing gear/ski equipment etc. We want you to bring gear you normally carry so you can practice improvising with the equipment you already own



✓ Lunch



✓ Clothing layers that allow you to be comfortable for outdoor skills practice and a variety of weather conditions



✓ Sunglasses/hat



✓ Camp chair or pad



✓Sleeping pad (for scenarios)



CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS




  • Students must complete all 16-hours of the course and testing in order to receive their Wilderness First Aid (WFA) certification.

  • PDF certification cards will be sent via email after students complete the final exam with a score of 70% or higher.

  • All certifications are valid for two years with no grace period. Certifications can be kept current by taking a 16-hour WFA course within the two-year period.



Successful course completion will earn the following Backcounty Pulse Wilderness Medicine certification:




  • Wilderness First Aid with Epinephrine Auto-Injector Training

PLEASE NOTE: This course is only open to students 18 years and over.

  • More than 1 week before scheduled class: You are able to transfer or cancel and get a full refund. 

  • 1 week before scheduled class: There will be a $25 administrative fee to transfer and NO refund for cancellations.
