Colfax Connections and the Arsenal: We'll see the old connections to the Army Arsenal, historically the Canal's largest stakeholder and understand why the Canal stopped flowing water past its headgate #157 near First Creek. At the time, the large truck farms produced produce for the Rose Hill area and beyond, but the failor of the farms led to the decision to stop the Canal's further flow. With money from the lottery, the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge plans to expand access into the Refuge from this First Freek area.
We'll meet at the end of the segment. Park at 4538 Perth St, Denver, CO. From here we will carpool to the beginning of the hike at 1780 Andes Street (Tower Road and 19th Avenue).
