This is a LIT Hike for Gary Luttman.

This should be a really nice hike up to a few lakes south of Breckenridge. It’s always nice out in the mountains in the Breckenridge area. Some of the Aspens are just now starting to change.

Arrive at the Wooly Mammoth park and ride (18560 US Hwy 40, Golden, CO) section GG at 6:20. Carpooling is at the discretion of the trip member. We will ensure everyone is there and do a pack/equipment check prior to departure. You will need your 10 essentials for this trip. We will depart promptly at 6:30.

We’ll regroup at the City Market in Breckenridge (400 N Park Ave, Breckenridge CO). We should be there by 8:00 am. We can do a nature/comfort break prior to heading to the trailhead. Park out away from the City Market front doors so we can do a quick briefing on the parking situation near the trailhead. We should leave here by 8:15 to be at the trailhead by about 8:30

Once at the trailhead we’ll do a quick briefing on expectations and the day ahead. The first portion of the hike will be the hardest but once to the first lakes it’ll be worth the effort. The first portion of the hike is ~2 miles with an elevation gain of ~1,000 ft. This will not be easy but we will stop as required to keep the group together. The first lake is rather small so we won’t spend too much time there. The second lake is very nice. We can spend some time here to get some photos then proceed on. Depending on the group we can then head a short distance and find a way to see part of the waterfall which is near the second lake.

From there we’ll start heading back towards the trailhead. On the way we’ll get to see a few more lakes in a marshy area. We’ll have views back towards the waterfall and where we were at on the hike up to the lakes.

Overall this will not be a fast hike. The goal is to have a nice day out in the beautiful CO mountains. Overall timeframe on the trail, depending on the group, is about 4 to 5 hours.

After the hike if the group wants we can either meet for a celebratory drink at a location in Breckenridge or back at the hotel near Wooly Mammoth parking area.

The Trip began at 0815 hrs.  We had Colorado Perfect Weather.  We visited the lakes and the falls before returning to the trailhead.  5.5 miles and 1200 vertical gain.  We changed the meeting place to the City Market instead of Wooly Mammoth on Friday evening.  All particiapants were in agreement.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
