Students must participate in a PPG trip where they are afforded the opportunity to practice and demonstrate their land navigation skills.  This will be listed as a separate trip on Oct 30.

BMS Land Navigation



Pre-Requisites: Wilderness Fundamentals.  Email Joe Preiss if you have fullfilled the pre-requiste or equivilent and would like the pass code.




There are 2 class lectures. Our discussions include maps, compass, orienteering, estimating distance, interpreting map symbols, properly reading topo contour lines, learning about declination, sighting, taking a bearing, and technologies such as GPS. You’ll also participate in class exercises using a map and compass.



Students must participate in a PPG trip where they are afforded the opportunity to practice and demonstrate their land navigation skills.  



Refunds are issued for cancellations made up to two weeks prior to the start of the program.



There is a $10.00 cancellation fee. No refunds for cancellations two weeks prior or no shows.



 



 




Notes

**Pre-Requisites: Wilderness Fundamentals**  The "Wild Fun" class covers concepts that will be expected knowledge for this course and will reference the text provided from this class!  

This course is part of the Pikes Peak Groups Basic Mountaineering School (BMS).  The program may be a pre-requisite for trips or other schools.  If you have any questions, please contact the instructor for this course.
