  • The American Mountaineering Center is located on the corner of 10th Street and Washington Avenue in downtown Golden. 
  • Parking is available in the parking lot north of the building (9th street & Jackson).
  • Please use the north entrance (across from CoorsTek).

Directions from Boulder:

  • South on Highway 93. Turn left (E) onto highway 58. Exit onto Washington Ave. Right (S) on Washington Ave. Left (E) on 9th street. Right (S) on Jackson Avenue, Right into the parking lot behind the building.

Directions from South Denver:

  • West on 6th Avenue. Right (E) on highway 58. Right at the Washington exit. Right (S) onto Washington Ave. Left (E) on 9th street. Right (S) on Jackson Avenue, Right into the parking lot.

Directions from North Denver:

  • West on I-70. Take exit 265 onto highway 58 (W), to Golden. Exit at Washington Avenue. Left (S) onto Washington Ave. Left (E) on 9th street. Right (S) on Jackson Avenue. Right into the parking lot.

Directions from Southwest suburbs:

  • North on C-470. To 6th Avenue. (Follow signs to Golden). Left (W) on 6th Avenue. Right (E) on highway 58. Right at the Washington St. exit. Right (S) onto Washington Ave. Left(E) on 9th street. Right on Jackson Ave and into the parking lot.

Directions from Mountains and West:

  • East on I-70. Take Exit 259, Morrison/Golden. Turn left (N) onto highway 40. After about a mile, look for left turn lane onto Heritage Road. At the third stoplight turn left (W) onto 6th Avenue. Right (E) on highway 58. Right at the Washington St. exit. Right (S) onto Washington Ave. Left (E) on 9th street. Right on Jackson Ave and into the parking lot.

OVERVIEW



This Wilderness Responder Course will begin with an evening online session November 30 and take place in-person on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 4-5 and 11-12 through field days with hybrid online and self-paced work in between.



Up-level your outdoor education and medical training with Wilderness First Responder (WFR)!  WFR is intended for outdoor professionals who volunteer or work multi-day trips in a backcountry setting. This course teaches rescuer, patient, bystander wellbeing and protection, risk mitigation for the environment and activity, ongoing management for environmental threats, spinal stabilization and patient packaging, patient physical exam and patient history, recognition of life threats and stabilization of emergencies, signs/symptoms of medical, traumatic, environmental illnesses and injuries, initiation of appropriate treatments based on assessment, patient monitoring, and vital sign patterns, clear/concise verbal report and written documentation, planning, appropriate evacuation methods, and patient handoffs. 



This hybrid class combines an online curriculum as well as hands-on in-person class time which forces students to think creatively, adapt to ever-changing situations, and learn valuable leadership, decision making and communication skills. Courses are open to students 18 and over. This course also satisfies the requirements for CMC trip leaders.



FORMAT



This hybrid WFR course will encompass both in-person, online, and self-paced learning from November 30 - December 12, 2021.




  • Class Format: 

    • Online Self-paced Learning: Google Classroom + Reading Book (students will need book prior to Nov 30th start)

    • Live Zoom Session: 6pm-9pm Tue/Thu on Nov 30th, Dec 2nd, Dec 7th, and Dec 9th

    • In-person field days: 9am-6pm December 4th, 5th, 12th

    • Saturday December 11th will be Noon - 9 p.m.


    • Registration will close and students will gain access to all materials one week prior to the in-person field session. ​Before registering for these field days, make sure you have ample time to complete the reading and self-paced work prior to November 30. 







​​IN-PERSON SCHEDULE in Golden, CO



9 AM to 6 PM (included 1-hour lunch break) on December 4, 5, and 12.



Saturday December 11 will start at Noon and end at 9 p.m. for a night scenario



These days may take place inside or outside so be prepared for a variety of weather conditions in December in the Front Range.

PLEASE NOTE: This course is only open to students 18 years and over.

Colorado Mountain Club Cancellation Policy

31 DAYS OR MORE BEFORE SCHOOL: 

Full refund less $35/person processing fee OR full credit can be transferred to a future session of the same school without incurring a processing fee. This can only be done once and credit can only be transferred to a school that is on the CMC calendar at the time of cancellation. If a future session is not available then a refund will be issued, less the aforementioned fee.

8 TO 30 DAYS BEFORE SCHOOL: 

Full refund less 25% of the fee paid but no less than $35/person processing fee OR full credit can be transferred to a future session of the same school without incurring a processing fee. This can only be done once and credit can only be transferred to a school that is on the CMC calendar at the time of cancellation. If a future session is not available then a refund will be issued, less the aforementioned fee.

7 DAYS OR LESS BEFORE SCHOOL: 

No refund will be granted. Credit cannot be transferred to a future session.
