Details

Deer Mountain in Rocky Mountain National Park is a popular destination for hikers wishing for a robust hike to a summit that rewards you with gorgeous views of Longs Peak, Moraine Park, Upper Beaver Meadows, and Estes Park.

We will hike up Deer Mountain from the scenic east side to avoid the RMNP permit requirements and crowds. This route is a 7 mile RT trail with 2000' of elevation gain (1 mile and 600' more than the standard trail from the west). The first 0.2 miles is off trail through tall grasses, weeds, and wildflowers. Sturdy boots and long pants are definitely required. We then connect with a trail that leads us to Deer Ridge, and proceeds west climbing up switchbacks to the junction just below the Deer Mountain summit (where the main trail comes in). From this junction, it is a short, rocky 0.2 mile hike up to the summit.

Once at the summit, we will take a lunch break while enjoying the beautiful panoramic view. We will return to the trailhead via the same scenic route. Bring your essentials, including water, lunch, sturdy boots, long pants, and rain gear. Ride share would be $5 from Loveland. Vaccination for COVID-19 is required for this trip.

Notes

COVID-19 vaccination is required to participate in this outing. Please bring vaccination card (or picture of it) to the meeting place.
