This is the final segment of our Colorado Trail and a marvelous adventure. We’ll meet in Durango and shuttle to Kennebec Trailhead. This is one of the most diverse segments of the CT with an elevation gain of 1,897 and a loss of 6,557. Make sure those legs are ready for a lot of downhill.

Day 1: Shuttle from Durango to Kennebec Trail head. We’ll start at an elevation of 11,642 and descend to 8,522 over 7 miles where we’ll camp near Junction Creek or thereabouts.

Day 2: From Junction Creek we’ll travel 10 miles to the last available camping on this segment. We’ll hike back up to 9,500 before we begin a gradual descent to 8,200 feet. Water is very scarce with nothing at our next campsite. Plan to carry enough water to get through the day and evening camping needs. We’ll have water a couple of miles after we depart on day 3, but no camping is allowed after this segment.

Day 3: It’s mostly downhill from here as we travel 7 miles to Durango, passing Gudy’s Rest before a very steep downhill finish toward cold drinks and burgers.

Three days of hiking, two days travel.

This is special trip as part of our fundraising campaign for YEP. We are raising money to expand the Youth Education Program to Colorado Springs. We respectfully request that participants make a meaningful contribution to this project. "Meaningful" can be any amount as determined by each participant.
