If you don't have your C classification and want to sign up for the hike, give the trip leader a call and we can talk about the route.

From the seldom used East Portal Trailhead in Estes Park, CO we will take the Wind River trail to connect with the Storm Pass Trail before taking the final trail up to the summit.  This is a different (and longer) route than what most people usually use to get to the top of Estes Cone.  Also, because of the total elevation gain (2,868 feet), it just barely causes the hike to be categorized as a C instead of a B hike.  At the very top there is what I would consider easy Class 3 scrambling to get to the summit but nothing too difficult and no real exposure.

Due to the trailhead we are using and the time of day we will be entering Rocky Mountain National Park, we will not need one of the new timed entry permits.  The parking lot at the trailhead is somewhat limited so I'm limiting the hike to 12 people (i.e., 3 carloads of hikers).

Feel free to contact the trip leader with any questions or to get more information on the route.

Refreshment stop after the hike.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
