Advanced Outdoor Rock Climbing: for participants entering grades 9th-12th and/or recent Highschool graduates



Up your outdoor rock-climbing game and gain the skills to become more independent within this sport! You’ll learn about and practice building anchors, understand advanced rope skills, hone your skills both on rope and bouldering outside, learn mental strategy, and gear placement and removal. Students who master this course progression will have the opportunity to lead outdoor sport climbs and follow a multi-pitch traditional rock-climbing route under the mentorship of YEP’s senior AMGA certified climbing staff. We’ll begin our week reviewing essential climbing skills and beginning to practice the art of lead belaying. Moving into the rest of the week, we’ll gain more practice on multi-pitch terrain, build confidence and skill in a lead climbing progression, and have the opportunity to follow 3-4 pitch traditional climbs. Previous climbing experience is required. (Day camp)



Cost: $475 CMC members/ $550 non-members. Learn about all the benefits of becoming a CMC member.



Course fees include instruction by AMGA Rock Guides and trained outdoor educators, equipment use, transportation to and from outdoor field sites, field journal, and snacks.



Course meets 8:00am-4:30pm daily, at the American Mountaineering Center (AMC) in downtown Golden. Drop-off and pick-up at the AMC

Refund/cancellation policy: Requests made prior to 30 days before the beginning of this camp will be processed with a $10 handling fee. Requests made within 30 days of the school/event will be refunded at 50% of the amount paid. No refunds will be made 7 days prior to the event.  If the CMC cancels the class for any reason, a full refund will be issued.

You will be permitted to cancel or reschedule with no additional fees: 

  • If the United States federal government or state of Colorado authorities do not permit the CMC - Youth Education Program to operate throughout the summer of 2021, or if we feel we cannot run a safe, successful and healthy summer program. 
  • If leading up to your child’s first day of camp: your child shows symptoms, or tests positive for COVID 19 and cannot attend.

Please know that If there is a need to cancel or reschedule, we will credit your registration fees towards a later summer camp (pending availability), or issue you a refund in full. 

*CMC’s Youth Education Program follows Colorado Childcare Licensing guidelines for health, safety, and hygiene.  Please note that we will be taking extra precaution to ensure the safety of our participants and staff.
