Walker Ranch is Boulder County Open Space in the Boulder foothills west of Eldorado Canyon State Park.  We will not visit "Eldo" on this trip but just hike the down-up-down-up loop trail within the open space.  We start and end the hike at the Cresent Meadow TH.  This area sees much mountain bike activity but it should not be too much in the winter months.  We cross South Boulder Creek twice and have nice views of South Boulder and Bear Peaks from the west.  A recent scout found some patchy snow but the trails are mostly clear.  This is not a snowshoe trip but foot traction is a good idea.

We should be back in time for Super Bown Kickoff - but no promises!

New Members:

CMC classifies hikes A,B,C,D as progressively longer and higher (and usually harder) from A to D.  "A" hikes are usually quite easy.  Most 14ers are "D" hikes.   About 50% of our hikes are B class,  25% A class, 25% C class, a few D class.  You can see the classes defined by clicking on the "CMC Classification" link at the left side of the trip schedule page.  Come on this hike to find out more about classifications and many other aspects of the club - this leader is a 30 year member, has paticipated in governance, conservation, trail maintenance, and loves to talk about CMC.  If you are wondering about your hiking ability with respect to the club this is a good hike.  If it is too easy you probably should look at "C" hikes in the future, and if too hard then "A" trips are probably where you should be.   I do not set a fast pace.
