This hike will start in Roxborough State Park and end up at the Waterton Canyon trailhead.  We will start from Roxborough's visitor center by hiking up Carpenter Peak (7160’).  From there, we will continue heading west into the Pike National Forest, using the Powerline Trail, then through Mill Gulch following Trail 605 to a junction with the Colorado Trail near Strontia Springs Reservoir.  From there, we will follow the Colorado Trail along the South Platte through Waterton Canyon back to the Waterton Canyon Parking Lot.  From there we will need to do a car shuttle involving 1 car to take the morning’s drivers back to Roxborough State Park to retrieve their cars.

All of this hike is on well established trails.  This hike is 13 miles long, with 1450 ft elevation gain and 2150 ft elevation loss.

Meet at the Waterton Canyon Parking lot at 7:30am so we can leave no later than 7:45am.  C-470 to Wadsworth Blvd south.  Turn left at Waterton Canyon Blvd and the after 100 yds turn left into the parking lot.  Here is a link to Waterton Canyon Trailhead on Google Maps:  From there, we will need drivers for the short 4 mile drive to the trailhead in Roxborough State Park.  Drivers should have a valid state parks pass.

For more info Contact

Jim Guerra, 720-320-7262,

The trailhead is at the Roxborough State Park visitor center.

I will send out weather information 2 or 3 days before the hike.  Assume that you will need spikes that have good traction on ice.

Please bring your ten essentials

Let me know if you have any medical conditions that I should be aware of.

There will be an optional celebratory stop after the hike, probably at the nearby Waterton Tavern, for those who are interested.
