Williams Peak is a backcountry ski trail just west of the Sunlight Mountain Ski Area near Glenwood Springs. From the trailhead, we'll climb steeply up the north side of Williams Peak (10, 079 feet). We travel through a forest of aspen and conifer trees which provides great scenery that is continually changing with each turn in the trail. From the summit there are great views of Fourmile Park to the west and the upper slopes of Sunlight Mountain Resort to the south and east. There are several popular downhill ski routes from the summit. We will meet at 0800 at the south Walmart parking area (upvalley side) near McDonalds. Avalanche gear including transceiver, shovel and probe pole required, along with appropriate food, clothing and metal edge skis with skins. Backcountry, AT, or telemark skis required (no split-boards). The terrain around the summit is steep, so previous skinning and backcountry downhill ski experience is required. Mileage may vary, depending on our down-route.
