Pemba Sherpa and Carrie Simon will give a photographic presentation on an intensely scenic region of Nepal, the Annapurna Sanctuary. Their talk will take you for a ride to the shimmering mountain-ringed glacier basin that was recently ranked by National Geographic as #18 out of the 100 most beautiful places in the world!

Pemba Sherpa has been involved with the CMC since the ’90s. After migrating to the United States from Nepal, Pemba has dedicated his life to giving back to the people of Nepal. From creating a viable infrastructure high in the Himalaya, to starting a company that shares profit with Nepal, his humanitarian efforts have made a true impact. Pemba will be co-leading a CMC Adventure Travel Trip to Nepal in September 2019. Learn more at:

Adding a way to look at international travel through a different lens, Jeff Blumenfeld, author of "Travel with a Purpose: A Field Guide to Voluntourism" will present his perspective on voluntourism. Simply put, take a vacation and add some volunteer time - and you become a voluntourist. These volunteer projects range from a day helping to restore coral in the South Pacific, volunteering for an eye mission to Nepal, building a school in Senegal, or helping pack apples at a food kitchen in Las Vegas.

Jeff Blumenfeld will show you how to identify the right location and volunteer opportunity, how to go about planning trips and preparing for volunteering, how to reach out, how to help. He'll spotlight volunteer trips he has gone on, and help you find your own adventure through voluntourism.
