Meet at 9:00 AM at Wooley Mammoth Park & Ride Section MM.  We will stop at the Georgetown Visitors Center for a "nature" stop.

The Trailhead is very near the I-70 exit for Silver Plume. Exot and turn left and then an almost immediate right.  Follow the snow-covered dirt road a short distance and park at the dead end on the south side of the road. There is room for maybe three cars, but there is a larger space a few yards down the road.  If the road is blocked, there is ample parking at the Loop RR parking lot, although adding to the trip distance.

This is a short ski tour and meant to be an introduction to x-c skiing but not on flat terrain. Skins are not needed but waxless skis with metal edges are best.  Let the leader know if waxing will be needed for older type skis.

The entire trip is a gentle, steady uphill grade following the old RR grade of the Argentine Central Railroad.  We will only go to the first switchback which will take one hour if few stops. The pace will be easy with frequent water and clothing stops.  If new snow, we wil try to proceed single file, so as to provide a good ski track for the way down. The downhill is a gentle glide and you may choose to practice with your kick-glide technique to gain more speed and rhythm. It will take about 30-35 minutes.

When we reach the first switchback (our destination), we will stop for a snack. So pack some sort of sitting pad if choosing to sit in the snow.  Plan to fill your water bottle(s) with hot water before leaving home.

This trip is sponsored by the RMOTHG, but is open to all CMC members.

For those who would like a bit more to eat, we'll have an optional lunch stop in Georgetown after the trip. The round-trip driving distance is 70 miles, so please bring $7 with you for your carpool driver.  We'll try to divide up the riders based on one's preference for a lunch stop in Georgetown.

Let me know of any medical issues via email. I will check my email the night before if anyone needs to cancel. I'll also send out any necessary weather details.

Check out the Denver Group website:  It's has more information than the regular CMC website.

Sorry it is past the registration deadline for this event.
